UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's tennis team (6-4) will take on the 17th-ranked Columbia Lions (5-2) in a 5 p.m. ET matchup on Saturday, March 5 at the Lifetime Fitness Center in Harrison, N.Y.
LAST TIME OUT
The Nittany Lions fell to Penn in a 4-0 match on Feb. 26. The Quakers secured the doubles point and clinched courts one, two, and five to take the match.
Chikaya Sato and Bora Sengul collected the lone doubles win with a 7-6 victory over Penn's Harsh Parikh and Kevin Zhu. The pair improved to 6-2 on the season.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Columbia comes into this Saturday's matchup with a 5-2 record. They are currently ranked 17th in the ITA's Division 1 National rankings, jumping up five spots from last week after defeating then-ranked No. 21 UNC-Chapel Hill, 4-3.
The Lions boast two ranked singles players in No. 7 Alex Kotzen who holds an 18-7 record and No. 96 Hugo Hashimoto. Columbia also competed with the No. 29 doubles pairing in the country in Max Westphal and Theo Winegar. The duo is 6-3.
In three contests all-time against the Lions, Penn State holds a 2-1 record. Columbia came away with the most recent win, a 4-0 sweep, over the Nittany Lions in 2019.
