Two Penn State Swimmers Compete in the Brazilian National Meet

RIO DE JANEIRO – Freshmen Eduardo Moraes and Victor Baganha competed in the Brazil Swimming Trophy from April 4 to April 9 at the Maria Lenk Water Park in Rio de Janeiro. 
 
The Swimming Trophy, like the U.S. Olympic Trials, serves as Brazil's selection meet for several of their national teams and is swum in a 50 meter Olympic pool. 
 
Both men qualified for finals in every event they swam, placing within the top-10 a combined six times.
 
Moraes: 
Moraes's performances in the 200 free relay and the 400 free highlighted his six-day competition. 
 
He swam to third overall with a time 3:50.30 in the 400 free and, alongside his Minas Tenis Clube teammates, won the 200 free relay.
 
Moraes also won the 200 free's B Final to place ninth (1:49.09) and finished seventh in the 800 free (8:04.90), 10th in the 1500 free (15:45.94) and 11th in the 200 back (2:08.37).
 
Baganha:
Baganha earned two appearances in the championship A Finals, first swimming in the 50 and then the 100 fly and placing sixth in both with times of 23.77 and 52.78. 
 
He also competed in the 100 and 50 free, touching the wall in 49.60 and 22.90 and earning 14th in both events.
