Nittany Lions have Strong Second Day at Bison Outdoor Challenge

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Penn State track and field team continued its strong showing at the Bison Outdoor Challenge on Friday with a new top-10 mark in program history and multiple top-three finishes.

Mallory Kauffman had the most notable performance of the day when she won the women's discus with the sixth-best throw in program history, finishing with a new personal best mark of 51.03m (167-5).

Other top-three field event finishes included program record-holder Luke Knipe placing second in men's pole vault with a height of 4.80m (15-9). Tesia Thomas had a third-place finish in long jump with a distance of 5.76m (18-10.75).

The Nittany Lions saw a successful team effort on the track in the various invite distance events from both the men's and women's group.

In the 1500m invite, Madaline Ullom led the Penn State women with a time of 4:20.71 to finish second, barely missing out on her personal record. Makenna Krebs clocked a new personal-best time of 4:27.17 to place eighth. Freshman Zoe Duffus continued her steady meet-to-meet improvement by once again running a personal-best time of 4:27.72.

Brandon Hontz finished in second place in the men's 1,500m race with a time of 3:43.10.

Sophia Toti finished third in the women's 5000m invite and her time of 16:35.89 was a new personal-best mark.

To close out the day, Eric Hamel led the Nittany Lions in the men's 10,000m invite with a time of 30:09.73.

The Nittany Lions look to close out the meet at Bucknell strong on Saturday when competition resumes at 9:30 a.m. on the field and 10:30 a.m. on the track.
