DEVONSHIRE PARISH, Bermuda – After a slew of individual victories and personal bests at the Bermuda National Swimming Championships, Penn State Swimming & Diving's Emma and Jack Harvey qualified to compete at the Commonwealth Games.
Three Penn State swimmers competed at the championships, held at the National Sports Center's 50-meter Olympic pool from May 20 to 22, and set nine personal bests and three season bests in prelims and finals.
Emma Harvey
Emma Harvey won two events. The rising senior touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:05.13) and the 100 fly (1:02.18), leading the competition by over four seconds in each event.
She also placed second in the 50 free (26.92), the 50 back (29.63) and the 50 fly (27.54).
Jack Harvey
Jack Harvey won the sprint backstroke events. The rising sophomore touched first in the 50 (26.35) and the 100 (56.76) in finals after swimming personal bests in both events during prelims.
He also swam to a personal best in the 200 back, touching in 2:04.89.
Lachlan Byrne
Lachlan Byrne won the sprint freestyle events, touching first in the 50 and 100 free in 23.98 and 51.58. His prelim times in both events, 23.95 and 51.49, were personal bests.
The rising senior also placed second in the 100 back (56.92) and earned personal bests in both the 50 (25.96) and 100 back (56.62) during the meet.
