UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's golf junior Patrick Sheehan was named to the All-Big Ten second team as well as a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
Sheehan put together a stellar junior campaign in which he led the Nittany Lions with a 70.79 stroke average. The Doylestown, Pa. native collected six top-10 finishes and eight top-15 finishes while competing in 11 events throughout the 2021-22 season.
Sheehan finished in the top 10 in four of five fall tournaments during the fall portion of the 2021-22 season, including a second-place finish at the Mountaineer Invitational in which he shot a 10-under, 206, a career-low score on a par-72 course. Sheehan maintained his momentum into the spring season, tying for first at 3-under, 210, with teammate James Allen at the Rutherford Intercollegiate before falling in the tiebreak, and finishing in the top 10 at 7-under, 209, at the General Hackler Championship.
Sheehan earns the first All-Big Ten honor of his career and is the first Nittany Lion to earn a conference postseason honor since Ryan Davis in 2020.
Sheehan was also named Penn State's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The sportsmanship award is given to student-athletes from each Big Ten school who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. All recipients must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
