Wiesner, Abello Roster With U-23 USWYNT

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Senior Kate Wiesner and alumna Kerry Abello have been called up to the U.S. Under-23 Women's Youth National Team for the squad's first international matches since the fall of 2019.

The U-23's will travel to Sweden for friendlies against India and the hosts in the Women's U-23 Three-Nations Tournament.

Wiesner is one of 12 collegiate players on the roster and one of nine players who were a part of the U.S. U-23 WYNT squad that participated in the pre-season tournament last March against NWSL teams. Additionally, she is one of six players to have played for the USA in a youth World Cup.

Wiesner has previously rostered at the U-15, U-17 and U-19 levels. She has served as co-captain of the U-17 National Team, and in 2016 she was a member of the squad that competed in the U-17 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers in Grenada and the U-17 World Cup in Jordan. In 2017, the team won the Torneo Femminile Delle Nazioni Tournament, and in 2018 qualified for the U-17 World Cup in Nicaragua.

Wiesner just completed her junior season at PSU where she played in 19 games for the Nittany Lions, starting in nine.

The call-up to the U-23 USWYNT is Abello's first national team duty since July 2017 when she traveled to Australia for training camp and three matches with U.S. U-18 WYNT. She also attended training camps with the U.S. U-19 WYNT (June 2017, May 2017 & February 2017).

She has previously rostered at the U-14 and U-15 levels as well.

The Batavia, Illinois native finished out her collegiate career at Penn State in December 2021 having appeared in 92 games with 70 starts. In her career she has scored 17 goals and 10 assists. She was a member of three Big Ten Championship teams and won two Big Ten Tournament Championships.

Abello currently plays for the NWSL's Orlando Pride where she has already played seven matches with two starts as a rookie. She is averaging 40 minutes per game with the Pride.

The USA will face India on June 25 in Helsingborg the first-ever match between a U.S. Women's National Team and the country that will host the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in October.

Then the USA will face Sweden on June 28 in Vittsjo. Australia was scheduled to participate in this tournament but withdrew, making it a three-team competition.
