No. 11 Women’s Hockey Drops 4-0 Decision to No. 4/5 Minnesota-Duluth

CANTON, N.Y. -- No. 4/5 Minnesota-Duluth scored three goals in the third period to secure the win, 4-0, on neutral ice over the No. 11 Penn State Nittany Lions on Friday afternoon in Appleton Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Minnesota-Duluth opened the scoring on a power-play goal with 11:57 left in the second period after a sliding save from Penn State goaltender Josie Bothun left the net open for Bulldog forward Mannon McMahon who tapped it from the top of the crease.

  • The Bulldogs tallied their second goal after a battle on the boards popped the puck out to Anneke Linser in the slot who sent it over Bothun's glove at the 5:03 mark of the third period.

  • Just under three minutes later, Linser struck again on a wrister from the left dot to give the Bulldogs the 3-0 lead.

  • A backhand pass from the inside post by Minnesota-Duluth's  Clara Van Wieren found McMahon in front of the net who put her through Bothun's five-hole for the Bulldog's fourth goal of the game at 14:56 in the third.

GOALTENDING

  • Bothun posted 30 saves, 13 of which came in the third period. The Penn State netminder now owns a 1-2-0 record and a .895 season save percentage.
