Safety is a primary concern at all Penn State Athletics events and we are aware of the issues that student fans encountered on Saturday night while entering the bowl of Beaver Stadium via the vomitories. As we do after each home football game, our game management staff reviews the entry process for all gates and sections with safety as our top priority.
Leading into the 2022 season, additional measures and protocols were put in place to address the student entry and seating processes, including additional magnetometers at the student gate to help expedite the entry process and new seating zones. Those processes are being reviewed for effectiveness. In addition to those changes and based on our review of the Minnesota game, the following protocols will be in place for the Ohio State game and moving forward. Students will now receive a non-transferable wristband to validate their student section ticket. At each portal, students will be required to show their wristband each time they enter to ensure only students are in the student section. Students will also see an operational change in how the student section is filled, which will improve safety and ease entry.
We also encourage our students and all fans to report any issues by texting NITTANY to 69050 and demonstrate their Happy Valley Hospitality by exhibiting behaviors to make Beaver Stadium game day safe. Be loud, proud, respectful, responsible, great fans and gracious hosts.
