No. 12 Penn State Opens CHA Play at Lindenwood Friday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – No. 12 Penn State heads to Missouri and opens College Hockey America play at Lindenwood on Friday at 8:10 p.m. ET.

THIS WEEK'S MATCHUP

  • Lindenwood is the Nittany Lions first CHA conference opponent this season.
  • Last year, Penn State finished 8-3-3 in conference play, and 2-0 versus Lindenwood.

ZANON ZOOMING UPWARD

  • Senior captain Kiara Zanon had an impressive pair of games against Franklin Pierce this past week.
  • Zanon tallied a pair of goals and one assist in the Nittany Lions 4-1 victory on Monday for her first multi-goal game of the season while accumulating one assist in the 6-0 shutout the day before.
  • On the year, she leads the Nittany Lions with 10 points highlighting 5 goals and 5 assists.

 
THE 100 GAMES CLUB

  • Senior defender Mallory Uihlein and forward Julie Gough joined the 100 games club following a 4-1 victory over Franklin Pierce.
  • They join four other active Penn State players who have played at least 100 games of NCAA Division I hockey.
  • Senior defenders Rene Gangarossa and Izzy Heminger both tallied over 100 games with the Nittany Lions while Courtney Correia and Eleri MacKay did it elsewhere before coming to Happy Valley.

 
DESA MAKING AN IMPACT

  • Freshman goaltender Katie DeSa made her first collegiate start against Franklin Pierce on Monday.
  • She stopped 11 shots on goal and picked up her first collegiate victory with a 4-1 defeat over the Ravens.
  • A much-deserved rest for star goalie Josie Bothun, DeSa's play gives head coach Jeff Kampersal and the Nittany Lions a strong, reliant second goalie behind Bothun.

 
SHOT MACHINES

  • During the Nittany Lions 4-1 win over Franklin Pierce Monday afternoon, the Nittany Lions registered 61 shots on goal.
  • Penn State has outshot their opponents 317 to 285 this season.

 
DEFENSIVE OFFENSE

  • Penn State defenders have a combined four goals and 20 assists on the season led by senior Mallory Uihlein who has six points (1 goal, 5 assists).
  • Uihlein ranks fourth on the team in points and eighth in the CHA.
