Head Coach Jeff Kampersal Opening Statement

I am proud of the team they showed up. One of their goals is a fast start and I thought they had one. It's not necessarily easy to play on Friday afternoons with class and whatnot, but our players have been locked in like all year. I'm not sure if we necessarily deserved to win, but we played well enough to win and we deserved a point. Getting there we didn't necessarily manage as well as we could have, but our players played with a lot of grit and supported one another. We will get the information that we gathered today for tomorrow.

Q: How do you stay focused? (Always had a tough schedule to start off the season)
A: Record wise we are trying to get better. We chose to start earlier in the year and that happens sometimes, you don't get all the preparation necessary. These players have been working hard from this spring to the summer and want to challenge these top programs because we feel like we are a top program now. And in that game, it just came down to one or two plays and managing plays. We are right there and we're not hanging on ever again. We are pushing the pace and we didn't win today, but it wasn't for a lack of effort.

Q: As a team you were up in shots, 12 shots after the first period, how did Colgate manage
to slow down the offense?

A: Colgate is fast, and we are fast, it is an up and down game. From a pure fan standpoint, set aside coaching, it's really fun to watch. These elite athletes play at a high level and it's cliche, but it literally comes down to one or two plays.

Q: What do you think was the thing that you guys did the best today that you can take into tomorrow?

A: I think we had really high energy, which is a big focus for us, having a lot of bench, a positive bench and that shows on the ice. We got some goals out there and momentum, but I think we also controlled how we reacted after they scored on us. Also, just controlling the things we can control. I think we did well, and we obviously want to take that into tomorrow.
