QUOTABLES

Head Coach Jeff Kampersal

Opening statement: Definitely frustrating. Yesterday, giving up a late goal. We didn't start off quickly in the first period. We got better as the game went on. I thought we started to roll the dice in a way. Even on that last play, we got four players back. They were focused on the puck and didn't pick out one player. Colgate is very skilled and can put the puck away in situations like that. So hopefully, we can learn to communicate and defend a little harder.

Q: You guys opened up against all top-ranked teams. Not the type of start you wanted after last season. What is your guys' mindset going into the Boston College series next weekend and the Ivy series after?

A: This is like our football team playing against Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia. We're going against the heavyweights. We're not concerned about records early in the year, but we're concerned about getting better. We want to be an elite program. We don't want to just knock on the door and celebrate moral wins or losses. So, playing against Wisconsin, Colgate and Duluth. We're right there and a couple of plays away. We're excited about that.

Q: You had two early power plays in the first period and then you surrendered a goal. What do you need to do to capitalize on these advantages?

A: I think that whole first period was out of sync. After a gut-wrenching loss yesterday, I thought we'd come out swinging and we didn't. So that was disappointing. I don't think it was particularly our play. I think we didn't piece any continuity together. I thought we gained momentum as we got into the second period.

Q: It was a tough second period. Until about six minutes, you only ran off six shots. What adjustments did you make going into the third?

A: Our players are aggressive and they're taking penalties. There was one of center ice where the Colgate player had her head down and ran into her defender and we got called for it. We have to deal with the great officiating. The fact that we could rally around the penalty kill was really good and it kind of gave us a spark and a little life to play hard in the third. So, there weren't really any adjustments.

Q: You guys suffered a loss that was pretty much in the same way as last night. How do you stay focused?

A: You just have to let it go. It's frustrating, but dwelling on it doesn't help you. You just pick out the things that you need to learn.
