Women’s Tennis Prepares for Split Weekend Traveling to Indiana and Hosting No. 50 Illinois

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's tennis (8-9, 2-3 BIG) begins the weekend traveling to Bloomington, Ind. to face the Indiana Hoosiers (9-9, 2-3) on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The Nittany Lions will return home to host No. 50 Illinois (12-6, 5-1) on Sunday at 11 a.m. 

LAST TIME OUT 

The Nittany Lions faced No. 20 Michigan at home last Sunday, falling 4-1 to the Wolverines in a hard-fought match.  

Penn State earned an early lead by capturing the doubles points to lead the Wolverines, 1-0 going into singles play. In bout two, Yvonne Zuffova and Olivia Ryan defeated Kari Miller and Anca Craciun, 6-2. Duo Gabby O'Gorman and Alexandra Nielsen secured the point for the Nittany Lions with a 6-3 victory over Gala Mesochoritou and Julia Fliegner. 

SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS 

Indiana enters Friday's matchup with a 9-9 record and 2-3 Big Ten conference record.  

 The Hoosiers swept No. 65 Purdue last Saturday, 4-2 and will continue conference play at No. 37 Northwestern following their matchup with the Nittany Lions. 

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING ILLINI 

Illinois enters this weekend's conference matchups against Purdue and Penn State with a 12-6 season record and 5-1 conference record. The Fighting Illini are tied for third in the Big Ten standings. 

Currently, Illinois holds a four-match win streak going into Friday's competition with the Boilermakers. Following play in Happy Valley, Illinois will host No. 37 Northwestern on Sunday, April 17.  

UP NEXT 

The Nittany Lions travel to Madison, Wis. on Friday, April 15 to battle Wisconsin at 5 p.m.
