UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's basketball alumni John Harrar will suit up in the 2022 The Basketball Tournament (TBT) with the Men of Mackey team beginning this Sunday.
TBT is a $1 million, winner-take-all summer basketball tournament broadcast live on ESPN networks. The single-elimination tournament features top professional, college alumni and international basketball players competing for the $1 million prize.
Harrar will suit up with Men of Mackey in the Dayton Regional at University of Dayton Arena. A total of 64 teams are split into eight Regional sites over two weekends in July. A team from each Regional will advance to Championship Week July 27-Aug. 2, where the event will culminate with the winner-take-all game for $1 million.
Harrar and Men of Mackey own the No. 4 seed in the Dayton Regional and open TBT action at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 24 against fifth-seeded Mid-American Unity. The schedule, should Men of Mackey advance in the single-elimination tournament, is listed below:

Harrar is one of 10 rostered players on Men of Mackey. He is joined by the likes of former All-American and NBA Draft pick and current ESPN and Big Ten Network analyst Robbie Hummel and several players that have spent time playing professionally overseas in Cameron Delaney, Evan Maxwell, Jonathan Oceteus, Kelsey Barlow, Kyle Mangas, Lewis Jackson, Luis Jacobo and Tyrone Nash. Harrar wrapped up his Penn State career in 2022 with a program-record 146 games played. The Wallingford, Pa. native finished his final season as one of just two Big Ten players to average a double-double with 10.6 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game, making him the first Nittany Lion in 22 years to finish the season averaging a double-double. Harrar shot 64.0 percent from the field this season, tied for the second-best single-season mark in Penn State history. He graduated No. 2 all-time in career FG% (59.6%), No. 5 all-time in career rebounds (854) and as one of just six players in program history with upwards of 800 career points and 800 career rebounds.
Harrar follows in the footsteps of fellow Nittany Lion alum who have competed in TBT, including the most recent participant in former standout and current professional player in Japan D.J. Newbill, who suited up for team Brotherly Love in the 2020 edition of TBT.
