Three Nittany Lions Selected for Big Ten Preseason Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's golf student-athletes James Allen, Jake Griffin and Patrick Sheehan have been named Big Ten Men's Golf Preseason Honorees, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
 
Allen enters his junior season this fall after a strong sophomore campaign that saw him finish third on the team with a 73.48 stroke average. He claimed the 2022 Rutherford Intercollegiate individual championship, shooting a 3-under, 210, and winning a playoff tiebreak. Allen collected GCAA All-America Scholar, Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten honors at the conclusion of his sophomore season.
 
Griffin is coming off a freshman campaign in which he was Penn State's highest finisher and the top-placing freshman in the championship field at the 2022 Big Ten Championships. Griffin tied for ninth at the league championships, marking the second top-10 finish of his freshman season. The Kensington, Md. native competed in seven events throughout his first season in the Blue & White, accumulating a strong stroke average of 73.81.
 
Sheehan returns for his senior season after a breakout year in 2021-22. The Doylestown, Pa. native put together a standout junior campaign in which he led the Nittany Lions with a 70.94 stroke average through 36 rounds and qualified for NCAA Regionals as an individual. He tallied six top-10 finishes and nine top-15 finishes en route to earning GCAA All-Region and second-team All-Big Ten honors. Sheehan also collected GCAA All-America Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Sportsmanship Award plaudits.
 
The Nittany Lions tee off the 2022-23 season next weekend when Penn State heads to Duke's Rod Myers Invitational on Sept. 9-10.
