Women's Hockey Captures CHA Monthly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass.- The Penn State women's ice hockey team swept the College Hockey America monthly awards on Wednesday. The Nittany Lions captured Forward of the Month, Defensive Player of the Month, Goaltender of the Month and Rookie of the Month honors.
 
Junior Kiara Zanon earned the Forward of the Month nod as she tallied seven goals and three assists during the month of the December. During the month, Zanon captured her first career hat-trick against Syracuse on December 4, registered two power-play goals and one short-handed goal and secured a game-winning goal. Zanon currently leads the Nittany Lions with 30 points off 14 goals and 16 assists. This is Zanon's second CHA monthly award honor of the year.
 
Senior Izzy Heminger secured Defensive Player of the Month honors as she had a 10-point month with two goals and eight assists. In each game during the month, Heminger averaged two assists a game as well as had two three-point nights. Heminger leads all Nittany Lion defensemen in assists with 16 on the year. This is Heminger's first monthly award.
 
Junior Josie Bothun was named Goaltender of the Month for her solid goaltended during the month of December. She tallied a 1.76 GAA and recorded 69 saves on 76 shots attempted. The Wyoming, Minn. native registered a .908 save percentage in her four victories. On the season, Bothun has a 2.04 GAA alongside a save percentage of .918 and a 14-8-1 record. This is her secoond monthly award nod.
 
Tessa Janecke picked up her second CHA Rookie of the Monthly award as she tallied three goals with six assists for nine points. She nailed a game winner alongside one power-play goal. On the year, Janecke sits second on the team in points with 27 coming off 14 goals and 13 assists.
 
The Nittany Lions return to action on Friday, January 13 when they host RIT at Pegula Ice Arena. Puck-drop is set for 6 p.m.
