Women's Swimming and Diving Scores on the Opening Night of Big Ten Championships

ANN ARBOR, MICH. –  The Nittany Lions' women's squad kicked off the Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships and earned points in the 200 Medley Relay (50) and 800 Free Relay (48) Wednesday evening at Canham Natatorium.

"We had a very strong start to our meet. In the 800 free relay," says Penn State head coach Tim Murphy. "Catherine Meisner had a lifetime best to lead off the relay. Cat Stanford, Abby Henderson, and Abbie Amdor also had lifetime best relay splits. The relay team finished in sixth place, which is three places higher than last year's Big Tens and the fastest relay in five years. The 200 medley relay's time of 1:37.51 is third all-time in school history. Emma Harvey had a lifetime best split in the 50 fly and she is the first Penn State swimmer under 23 seconds in school history. The medley relay finished in fifth place which is two spots higher than last year's."

Relays: 

This evening's events kicked off with the 200 Medley Relay. Molly Carson, Olivia Jack, Emma Harvey, and Mary Brinker swam through for a 1:37.51 finish to land a fifth place spot on the podium. The performance was the third fastest in program history for the Nittany Lions, surpassing the 1:37.61 mark set in 2014 by Mackenzie Powers, Haley Sinatro, Carolyn Fittin and Katelyn Miller.

The 800 Free Relay closed with a sixth place finish for Catherine Meisner, Catherine Stanford, Abby Henderson, and Abbie Amdor at 7:08.67.
