Ezeonu Named EIVA Defensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's volleyball's Toby Ezeonu was named the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after turning in a strong performance in a weekend sweep of conference foe Princeton.
 
Ezeonu hit .484 with 17 kills and 11 blocks over the two league wins over Princeton, helping Penn State improve to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the EIVA. He excelled offensively in Friday night's sweep, hitting .529 with 11 kills and two blocks. He then led the defensive effort in Saturday's sweep, totaling a career-high nine blocks in addition to six kills on .429 hitting.
 
It's the first EIVA weekly award of the season for Ezeonu. He has won three in his career. He is the fifth Penn State player to earn an EIVA award this season, joining John Kerr (Offensive), Cal Fisher (Offensive), Owen Rose (Defensive), and Michal Kowal (Defensive).
 
Ezeonu ranks second in the conference and fourth in the nation in hitting percentage at .473. He is fourth in the EIVA in blocks, averaging 0.88/set.
 
Penn State continues league play with a pair of road matches at NJIT on Friday and Saturday. The Highlanders are 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the EIVA.
