Marsh Earns All-Big Ten Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State baseball freshman Bobby Marsh was named All-Big Ten third team as a designated hitter on Tuesday. He was also selected to the All-Big Ten freshman team. Steven Miller was honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
 
Marsh becomes Penn State's first freshman to earn All-Big Ten honors since Steve Snyder picked up third team accolades in 2010.
 
Marsh joins Snyder, Ryan Ignas (Third, 2009), Jordan Steranka (Third, 2009), Scott Gaffney (Third, 2005) and Michael Campo (Second, 1997) as Penn State freshmen to be recognized as All-Big Ten selections.
 
Marsh was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten freshman team.
 
The rookie earned Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week honors on May 22.
 
The Bellefonte native finished the season with a .310 average to go with 45 hits, 13 doubles, six homers, 35 RBI and 33 runs. He ended the year with a .524 slugging percentage and a .912 OPS.
 
Marsh collected 12 multi-hit games, eight multi-RBI games and seven multi-run games. He had a 10-game hit streak from April 8-April 25 and a 16-game reached-base streak from March 28-April 29.
 
In Big Ten play, Marsh batted .293 with 22 hits, including seven doubles and three homers, 19 RBI and 16 runs. The 19 RBI tied for a team best.
 
Marsh's first at-bat resulted in a double at No. 22 Miami. He hit a two-run homer against Holy Cross and a solo homer against Brown.
 
The freshman had two doubles, two runs and an RBI against Indiana on April 2. He recorded two hits, including a homer, two RBI and three runs at Purdue on April 14.
 
In the series against Ohio State, Marsh had four hits, including two doubles and a homer, eight RBI and four runs. He followed that with a solo homer at West Virginia on April 25.
 
Marsh hit a solo homer at Nebraska on May 12. He followed with two doubles, two runs and a career-high four RBI against No. 20 Maryland on May 18.
 
Miller ended his Penn State career with 61 appearances, five wins, and 109 strikeouts in 107.1 innings. A key member of the program for five years, Miller recently graduated with his degree in architectural engineering.
 
The Pittsburgh native finished his senior season with a team-high 21 appearances and recorded 54 strikeouts in 48.1 innings.
 
Miller did not allow an earned run in 13 of his 21 appearances and pitched more than two innings on 13 occasions.
