Women’s Tennis Will Travel to Princeton for First Road Match of Spring Season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's tennis (1-1) team will travel to Princeton, N.J. to compete against the Princeton Tigers (1-0) for their first road match of the spring season on Sunday. Start time for the match is set for 10 a.m.
 
""We had a really great start to our season last weekend with our energy and willingness to be out there and compete," said head coach Alexandra Anghelescu. "This season is going to be all about heart and confidence in one another. This weekend against Princeton is no different than what we are expecting for the season. We have a long road ahead of us, but we're on the right track."
 
LAST TIME OUT
Penn State went 1-1 last weekend, opening the season with a 5-2 win over Xavier. The Nittany Lions collected singles victories from No. 53 Sofia Chekhlystova at No. 1, Carla Girbau at No. 3, Ioana Gheorghita at No. 4, Olivia Dorner at No. 5 and Alexandra Nielsen at No. 6.
 
The Nittany Lions fell to Old Dominion, 5-2, in their second match of the 2023 season last Sunday. The Monarchs clinched the doubles point and won four of the six singles courts to return home with the win.
 
At the No. 1 singles position, Chekhlystova defeated No. 37 Tatsiana Sasnouskaya, 7-5, 3-6, 10-5. 
 
Dorner, a freshman, is 2-0 at the No. 5 singles position on the season. She won her match against ODU's Alexandra Viktorovich, 6-3, 4-6, 19-17. 
 
PREVIEWING PRINCETON
 
Princeton kicked of its 2023 season with a 7-0 blank over Richmond. Leading the Tigers is senior Daria Frayman, who is ranked No. 4 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
 
Frayman is a part of a nationally ranked doubles duo as well. Grace Joyce and Frayman are ranked No. 26.
 
NEXT UP
 
The Blue and White travels to Baton Rouge, La. to compete against Harvard on Jan. 28 and LSU on Jan. 29.
