Fashanu, Robinson Collect All-American Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu was selected a first-team All-American by the Associated Press and a second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) on Monday, while defensive end Chop Robinson was a third-team selection by the Associated Press.
 
Fashanu picked up his second and third All-American honors for the 2023 season. He was tabbed a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation on Friday.
 
Robinson garnered his first career All-American honor.
 
On Friday, Fashanu became Penn State's 102nd first-team All-American in school history and its first, first-team selection since linebacker Micah Parsons in 2019. He is Penn State's 15th All-American selection in the James Franklin era.
 
Fashanu is Penn State's first offensive lineman to earn multiple first-team All-American nods from NCAA-recognized outlets since A.Q. Shipley (FWAA, Walter Camp) in 2008.
 
This marks the eighth time, in the Franklin era, a Nittany Lion has received All-America recognition from multiple NCAA-recognized outlets (Associated Press, AFCA, FWAA, Sporting News, Walter Camp) in a season. Fashanu joins Joey Porter Jr. (2022), Jaquan Brisker (2021), Jordan Stout (2021), Micah Parsons (2019, consensus), Saquon Barkley (2017, consensus/2016), and Carl Nassib (2015, consensus).
 
Robinson joins Arnold Ebiketie (second team, 2021) and Carl Nassib (first team, 2015) as Nittany Lion defensive ends to collect All-American accolades under Franklin.

  • Began the season on the Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Lombardi Award watch lists.
  • According to Pro Football Focus, has a 92.0 pass rush grade this season, sixth-highest among players with over 100 pass rush snaps.
  • Owns 60 tackles (43 solo), 20 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three pass breakups in 35 games in his collegiate career.
  • In 2023, Robinson has 15 tackles (12 solo), four sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, a pass breakup and five QB hurries in 10 games.
  • Against Iowa, he made two tackles, including a strip-sack in the third quarter, and posted a 94.1 pass rush grade.
  • He tied a career high with two sacks against UMass.
  • In the Rutgers game, Robinson tied his career highs with five tackles and two tackles for loss. In the third quarter, he recorded a strip-sack and recovered the fumble.

 
No. 10 Penn State is set to make it first appearance in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl when the Nittany Lions take on No. 11 Ole Miss on Saturday, December 30. Kickoff is set for noon on ESPN at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
 
Penn State finished the regular season with a 42-0 win at Michigan State to improve to 10-2 overall and 7-2 in Big Ten action. The Nittany Lions reached 10 wins in a season for the 26th time and reached 10 wins in the regular season for the 21st time. In addition, Penn State reached 10 wins for the fifth time since 2016.
 
Penn State is one of 11 FBS teams with at least 10 wins in at least five of the last eight seasons, joining Alabama (8), Boise State (6), Clemson (7), Georgia (6), Michigan (6), Notre Dame (5), Ohio State (7), Oklahoma (6), Troy (5) and Washington (5).
 
Penn State clinched its second-straight 10+ win season, joining Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Troy, Tulane and Washington as teams who have posted 10+ win seasons in 2022 and 2023. The Nittany Lions reached 10+ wins for the fifth time in the James Franklin era and earned seven Big Ten wins for the eighth time in program history.
