Delavallade Selected for NCAA Athens Regional

ATHENS, Ga. – Penn State women's golf senior Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) is set to compete in the 2023 NCAA Athens Regional, hosted by the University of Georgia, on May 8-10.

The three-day tournament features an 18-18-18 format with 396 student-athletes competing across six regional sites with 12 teams and six individuals at each. Round one will begin on Monday, May 8 starting at 8 a.m. The Athens Regional will take place at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Georgia.

"I'm really excited and proud to get this opportunity, it's my proudest accomplishment of my college career so far," stated Delavallade. "I wish we were able to get there as a team, but I plan on giving my very best to represent my teammates the best that I can."

Delavallade has competed in all ten events this season for the Nittany Lions posting five top-ten's including a trio of top-five finishes highlighted by a second-place finish after an 8-under, 205, to open the season at the Cougar Classic. She's pacing the team with a career-best 72.25 stroke average, a mark which is currently the lowest single-season stroke average in program history.

In the Athens Regional, there are 12 teams and six individuals vying for a spot in the NCAA Championships on May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Thirty teams will advance to the championship in Scottsdale — five from each of the six regional sites with 156 players in total advancing to the championship, with the top five teams and top individual (not on an advancing team) advancing from each regional.

This is the first time a Nittany Lion has made an appearance as an individual in an NCAA regional since then-junior Cara Basso competed in the 2018 Madison Regional. Basso finished tied for 42nd in the 96-player field with a 220 (plus-4) that year.

"I am extremely proud of Mathilde for qualifying for the NCAA Regionals," mentioned head coach Denise St. Pierre. "It is a huge honor and testament to her outstanding play throughout the year!"

The 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regionals kick off with round one on Monday, May 8 with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
