UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's gymnastics' Kalea McElligott was recognized as the Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Co-Freshman of the Week for her performance this past Saturday, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
McElligott earns a share of this week's conference newcomer honor thanks to a consistent all-around outing at Nebraska on Saturday night in which she scored 9.8-or-above on all four events in the same meet for the first time in her career. Her career-best 9.825 on bars along with her 9.825 on floor, 9.8 on vault, and 9.8 on beam led her to a 39.250 all-around total. The Massapequa, N.Y. native's stellar performance as a newcomer to coach Sarah Brown's lineup has helped the Nittany Lions move up the national rankings, as Penn State comes in at No. 22 in the nation this week.
The Penn State all-arounder picks up her first career Big Ten weekly accolade, earning the Nittany Lions' first Big Ten weekly award of the season.
