Warren caught 17 passes, Barker hit game-winning field goal at USC

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State senior tight end Tyler Warren and redshirt freshman kicker Ryan Barker claimed Big Ten weekly awards on Monday for their efforts in No. 3/3 Penn State’s 33-30 overtime win at USC. Warren was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Barker was tabbed Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

 

The Nittany Lions have earned four Big Ten weekly awards this year. Junior safety Kevin Winston Jr. was Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following the West Virginia game and junior defense end Abdul Carter was Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after the Illinois game.

  • Caught a career-high 17 passes for a career-best 224 yards and one touchdown against USC.
  • Set a Penn State and Big Ten tight end record with 224 receiving yards, while joining Northwestern’s Jon Harvey (208 vs. Michigan, 1982) as the only Big Ten tight ends to go over 200 receiving yards in a game.
  • His 17 receptions are a Penn State record and tie the FBS tight end record, set by New Mexico’s Emilio Vallez in 1967 and matched by Harvey in 1982.
  • Warren’s 224 receiving yards are the second-most by a Penn State player, trailing only Jahan Dotson’s 242 yards at Maryland in 2021.
  • Named William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist and is on the Mackey Award watch list.
  • Graduated in Fall 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in advertising/public relations and is pursuing a second degree in telecommunications.
  • He is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
  • Has appeared in 43 career games, making 18 starts.
  • Earned third-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and honorable mention from the media in 2023.
  • He owns 89 receptions for 1,119 yards and 15 touchdowns, while adding three rushing scores and a passing touchdown at Penn State.
  • Warren has 16 career receptions of 20+ yards and three career 100-yard receiving games.
  • Warren’s 15 career touchdown receptions are good for 11th all-time at Penn State and tied for second among PSU tight ends with Mike Gesicki (15; 2014-17), trailing only Pat Freiermuth (16; 2018-20).
  • He has the most total touchdowns (18; 15 receiving, 3 rushing) all-time among Penn State tight ends.
  • He is third among PSU tight ends all-time with 89 career receptions and fifth with 1,119 career receiving yards.
  • He is one of three active FBS tight ends (only Big Ten tight end) with 85+ receptions, 1,100+ receiving yards and 15+ receiving touchdowns in his career.
  • In 2024, he has 40 receptions for 513 yards and four touchdowns.

  • Knocked through kicks of 34, 33, 20 and 36 yards against the Trojans.

  • Hit Penn State’s first game-winning field goal since August 30, 2014 against UCF when Sam Ficken hit a 36-yarder.
  • The Nittany Lions won on an overtime game-winning field goal for the first time since 2012 against Wisconsin (Sam Ficken, 37 yards).
  • Barker became the first Nittany Lion to hit four field goals in a game since Tyler Davis at Rutgers in 2016.
  • The redshirt freshman is six-for-six on field goals this season with a long of 40 yards.
  • He is eight-for-eight on extra-point attempts.
