Women’s Tennis’ Dorner and Uchijima Fall in Round of 32 at NCAA Doubles Championship

The tandem closes a historic fall campaign with the program's first NCAA Individual Championships appearance since 2012-13

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 49 Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima dropped a hard-fought match against Colorado’s Anya Nelson and Ema Bubalo (6-3, 3-6, 6-10) in the Round of 32 at the NCAA Doubles Championship on Wednesday afternoon.

The pair took the first set but could not close out the contest as Nelson and Bubalo won the final two. Nelson and Bubalo move to 10-0 as a team on the season.

Dorner and Uchijima are Penn State’s sixth overall and fifth doubles appearance in the NCAA Individual Championships, the first since Petra Januskova and Chelsea Utting in 2012-13. They qualified for the event by winning the ITA Northeast Regional doubles final against Penn’s Eileen Wang and Sabine Rutlauka (1-6, 6-4, 10-7) on Oct. 15 in Philadelphia. The tandem finishes a successful fall season with a 10-2 record.
