UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom and surpass Division I national averages, according to Academic Progress Rate (APR) data released today by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Penn State's all-sport APR multiyear average for 2022-23 was 989, which is above the national average of 984 and meets one of the academic achievement unit benchmarks for the NCAA.
The NCAA reported 19 Penn State teams earned perfect APR scores of 1,000 during the 2022-23 academic year. The teams earning a perfect single-year APR are baseball, men's cross country, women's cross country, women's fencing, field hockey, men's golf, women's golf, men's gymnastics, women's gymnastics, men's hockey, women's hockey, softball, women's soccer, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's tennis, women's track & field and men's volleyball.
In addition, eight Penn State squads earned perfect multi-year (2019-20 through 2022-23) APR scores of 1,000 and claimed with a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA, which recognizes the top 10 percent APR teams in each sport: baseball, women's fencing, field hockey, women's golf, women's gymnastics, men's hockey, men's tennis and men's volleyball.
