UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Women’s Tennis (3-0) earned a 7-0 victory over Saint Francis (0-2) on Friday at the Indoor Tennis Center. For the second time in three matches, Penn State did not drop a set in the dual.
Sophomore Jordina Cegarra and freshman Patricia Grigoras made quick work on court two, winning their doubles match 6-2. The junior pair of Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima, ranked No. 46 by ITA, won 6-2 on court one to secure the doubles point for the Nittany Lions.
Penn State controlled singles action from the first serve. The squad picked up their first two points with simultaneous victories from senior Yvonne Zuffova and freshman Patricia Grigoras. Zuffova, playing on court four, won 6-3, 6-3 while Grigoras triumphed 6-3, 6-3 on court two. Shortly after, junior Olivia Dorner clinched the match for the Blue and White with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court one.
Freshman Jelena Vico maintained a perfect start to the spring season with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court three. Sophomore Jordina Cegarra, competing at the five spot, notched her first singles win of the spring in commanding fashion. She took the match 6-1, 6-4. At court six, Maria Daciana Ciubotaru won her third consecutive singles match since enrolling in the spring 6-1, 6-0.
