No. 24 Women’s Gymnastics to Host Illinois in Rec Hall on Friday

6-2 Nittany Lions compete in second-straight Big Ten home dual meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — No. 24 Penn State women’s gymnastics (6-2, 1-1 Big Ten) is set to host Illinois (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten) in Rec Hall on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. for the Women’s Empowerment Meet.

  • Penn State welcomes fans to a women’s empowerment celebration on Friday night.
  • The first 300 fans through the doors will receive a free tumbler!
  • Additional activities include a gymnastics zone and post-meet autographs with Nittany Lion gymnasts.

LAST TIME OUT

In their Big Ten home opener, the Nittany Lions scored 194.825 points to secure the win over Rutgers. With this win, Penn State earned its first conference win of the season, improving their 2025 home record to 3-0 in the process.

VAULT – No. 32

Penn State finished with a team score of 48.600 on vault. Fifth-year Maddie Johnston and freshman Elizabeth Leary both scored 9.75s to lead the group on the event.

BARS – No. 15

The Nittany Lions dominated on bars with five scores at-or-above 9.8. Graduate student Gabbie Gallentine led the group with an impressive performance, scoring a season-best 9.9. Senior Jessica Johnson scored a season high and grad student Cassi Barbanente matched her season high, eash tallying 9.85s. Freshmen Leary and Dani Latronica both scored 9.825s as Penn State posted a 49.250, its highest team total on any apparatus this season. The performance moved Penn State up to 15th in the national rankings on the apparatus.

BEAM – No. 32

On the beam, sophomores Kalea McElligott and Ashley Maul led the Nittany Lions, both scoring 9.775s. Junior Amani Herring earned a 9.725 while Senior Isabella Salcedo collected a 9.7. Penn State counted its first fall of the season on the beam, scoring 48.025 points.

FLOOR – No. 22

The Nittany Lions bounced back and finished strong on floor, ending the night by scoring a 48.900. McElligott hit a season-best, earning a score of 9.875 and won the event title. Herring scored a 9.85 and Leary added onto the team score by earning a 9.775. Salcedo made her first floor appearance of the season, scoring a solid 9.75 for Penn State.
