NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Penn State Women’s Tennis (3-1) dropped its first match of the season against Yale (3-2) on Sunday in a 5-2 decision.
Penn State earned the doubles point with commanding victories on courts one and two. Juniors Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima, ranked No. 46 by ITA, downed Erin Ha and Orly Ogilvy 6-2 on court one. At the two spot, sophomore Jordina Cegarra and freshman Patricia Grigoras defeated Mirablle Brettkelly and Shyla Aggarwal 6-3. Both pairs remain undefeated during the spring season.
In singles, Dorner grabbed a win on court one against Mirablle Brettkelly 6-0, 6-3.
Yale took the rest of the singles matches. On court two, Uchijima fell to Orla Orgilvy 6-2, 7-6. Grigoras dropped to No. 99 Shyla Aggarwal 6-3, 6-4 on court three. At the four spot, Julia Wedinger defeated freshman Jelena Vico 6-3, 6-3. On court five, Erin Ha beat Yvonne Zuffova 6-3, 7-5. Maria Daciana Ciubotaru fell to Angela Huang 6-1, 6-2 at the six spot.
The Nittany Lions return home for three matches next weekend. The team hosts St. Bonaventure at 10 a.m. and Niagara at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. Penn State will close the weekend on Sunday, Feb. 9 against Mount St. Mary’s at 1 p.m.
