UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.;– Penn State women's fencing teams competed Saturday at the Beguinet Classic at Duke University.
Penn State vs. Boston College- The women's team battled Boston College tough, ultimately dropping the match by a score of 17-10. The team secured a victory in saber with a close 5-4 win. The foil event was tightly contested, with Penn State narrowly losing in foil 5-4. The Lions fell in epee 8-1.
Penn State vs. Duke- In another closely fought dual against Duke, the Nittany Lions fell short by a final score of 15-12. The team triumphed in foil, winning 5-4, but faced narrow defeats in saber (5-4) and epee (6-3).
Penn State vs. Brandeis- The team celebrated a hard-earned victory against Brandeis, winning the dual 16-11. Penn State dominated the epee event with an impressive 8-1 win. However, they experienced close losses in foil (5-4) and saber (5-4). But the seven point margin in epee was enough to secure the victory.
Penn State vs. Notre Dame- Penn State found itself in another close dual, this time against Notre Dame, but Penn State narrowly lost by a score of 14-13. The team achieved a clean sweep in epee, winning 9-0, but faced tough losses in foil (5-4) and saber (9-0).
Penn State vs. MIT- The final dual of the day saw the women's team battle MIT, where it dropped the match by a score of 18-9. The team fell in foil (6-3), saber (5-4), and epee (7-2).
The men’s team competes tomorrow.
Following this weekend’s action select Penn State Fencers will compete at 2025 Junior Olympics in Charlotte, N.C February 14th –17th
