PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Penn State Women’s Tennis (12-3, 3-2 B1G) earned its third conference victory in a 4-1 decision against Rutgers (7-6, 1-4 B1G) on Saturday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions secured the doubles point with victories on court two and three. On court two, Jordina Cegarra and Patricia Grigoras defeated Karina Jumazhanova and Jackie Lopez, 6-4. The freshmen duo of Jelena Vico and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru took down Zuzanna Frankowska and Zeynep Ilker in another 6-4 match.
Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima dropped a 6-2 decision to Mai Nguyen and Naomi Karki on court one.
Grigoras earned the first singles win of the day with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Jumazhanova on court three. At the five spot, Cegarra took down Lopez, 6-4, 6-3. Uchijima clinched the match with a comeback victory on court two. She defeated Frankowska, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Vico was one game away from winning on court four against Minchae Kim. Their match went unfished with Vico leading, 7-5, 5-1. On court six, Ciubotaru and Ilker had their match stopped at 5-7, 3-2. Dorner fell to Nguyen, 3-6, 2-6, on court one.
Penn State closes out the weekend with a road match against Maryland tomorrow. The dual is slated to begin at noon.
