COLUMBUS, Ohio - Penn State Women’s Tennis (13-8, 4-7 B1G) fell against No. 10 Ohio State (16-2, 10-1 B1G), 7-0, on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Ohio State took the doubles point in a back-and-forth affair. Maria Daciana Ciubotaru and Deanna Lasorda fell to Audrey Spencer and Dani Schoenly, 6-3, on court three. On court two, Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima picked up their 20th win of the season over Sophia Cisse and Sydni Ratliff, 6-3.
The point came down to the court one contest between Jordina Cegarra and Patricia Grigoras against No. 16 Luciana Perry and Teah Chavez. Cegarra and Grigoras fought hard against the highly ranked duo but ultimately came up short, 7-5.
The Buckeyes clinched the match with three straight singles wins. The first match to conclude was on court six where Lasorda dropped to Alessia Cau, 6-3, 6-0. On court one, Dorner fell to No. 9 Perry, 6-2, 6-2. At the three spot, No. 88 Ratliff defeated Grigoras, 6-3, 6-3.
The teams would play out the rest of the matches. Uchijima fell to No. 29 Chavez, 6-3, 6-4, on court two. Ciubotaru dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision No. 94 Spencer at the five spot. Cegarra fell, 4-6, 7-5, 10-3, to No. 120 Shelly Bereznyak on court four.
Penn State returns home for the final weekend of the regular season. The Nittany Lions will face Minnesota on Friday, April 18 at 3 p.m. before a matchup with No. 25 Wisconsin on Sunday. The program will celebrate seniors Lasorda and Yvonne Zuffova against the Badgers.
