UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track and field teams continue their outdoor slate this weekend at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. on Friday and Saturday.

Maddie Pitts and Madeleine Soderqvist competed in the first heptathlon of the outdoor season during the Duke Invitational. Pitts complied a total score of 5,184 that ranked third overall in Group A. She set a new PR of 13.56 in the 100-meter hurdles to take the No. 7 spot in program history and also had first place finishes in the 200-meter race (23.78) and the 800-meter race (2:13.62). Soderqvist earned a total of 4,845 points overall to place second in Group B, recording several PRs in the 100-meter hurdles (14.74), high jump (1.54m / 5 – ½) and shot put (12.20m / 40 – ½).
Isaac Osifo placed second in the men’s high jump (2.06m / 6-9) while Robert Allen finished fifth (2.01m / 6-7)
Alexandria North recorded a new PR in the women’s 400-meter race with a time of 54.82 during day three.
At the Bison Outdoor Classic, a pair of PRs from Claire Zubey and Katie Dallas were recorded in the women’s 1500-meter race. Zubey completed the first 1500-meter race of her collegiate career at a time of 4:28.9 while Dallas finished behind Zubey at 2:29.08.
Christopher DeSousa finished the 1500-meter race in fifth place with a time 3:46.54 and Jake Borgesi, running in the first 1500-meter of his collegiate career, finished in 16th in 3:51.82 to both set new PRs.
Three Nittany Lions finished in the top 10 with personal-best times in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase. Hayden Healey placed second (8:56.77), Ryan Watson placed third (8:59.82) and Logan Strawser placed eighth 9:11.25).
Audrey Friedman topped her PR in women’s javelin, placing second with a 49m (160-9) throw to become No. 10 in program history.
Jake Palermo ran the first 200-meter race of his collegiate career, finishing in first place with a time of 21.21. James Onwuka finished in 10th place, clocking in at 21.61 to set a new PR.

The Nittany Lions travel to Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the Virginia Challenge that begins on Friday at 10:30 a.m. and continues into Saturday.
