Track and Field Primed for 129th Penn Relays

Penn State heads to historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia Thursday-Saturday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track and field teams will travel to Philadelphia to compete in the 129th-annual Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field Thursday through Saturday.

Penn State has won two of the last three College Women's 4x800-meter Championship of America races at the Relays, setting the school record in the event in 2022 and then again in 2023. The Nittany Lions last earned individual wins in 2022 with Tyler Merkley taking the men's hammer throw crown and Chloe Royce winning the women's long jump.

The Nittany Lions have won 38 total relay championships in the history of the meet, with the earliest being the 1920 College Men's 4xMile and DMR Championships of America and the most recent being the aforementioned 2023 College Women's 4x800 Championship of America.

The Nittany Lions recorded four top-10 marks in program history and put together 16 personal-record performances at last weekend’s Virginia Challenge.

Freshman sprinter Ajani Dwyer recorded the fastest 100-meter time in Penn State history under all conditions, finishing in first place with a time of 10.05. Dwyer topped his No. 2 all-time mark previously set at the Florida Relays.

Four Nittany Lions finished within the top 10 in the men’s 800-meter race. Olivier Desmeules placed second (1:47.77), Allon Clay placed third (1:47.82, PR), Darius Smallwood placed fifth (1:47.91) and Carter Fitzgerald placed eighth (1:48.69) to round out the top-10.

Three Nittany Lions earned top-10 finishes in the women’s 1,500-meter race. Kileigh Kane finished in first place and improved her No. 2 all-time mark in program history to 4:12.49.

Maddie Ullom finished third behind Kane (4:14.91) and freshman Ada Rand finished in eighth (4:17.69).

Freshman Addyson White continued an impressive start to her collegiate career, setting a PR of 1:01.16 in the women’s 400-meter race to finish in second place.

Victoria Atkinson had a stand-out performance in women’s pole vault, recording a 4.20m (13-9 ¼) mark, tying for No. 2 all-time in Penn State history with Hailey Zurich (2024).

Both the men’s and women’s 4x400-meter relay race teams finished in first place. The women’s team finished in 3:36.10 while the men finished in 3:06.64.

James Onwuka cracked into the top-10 all-time list in the men’s 400-meter race, placing sixth at a time of 46.70 to take the No. 10 spot in program history.

Three Nittany Lions finished within the top 10 of the men’s high jump. Isaac Osifo recorded a 2.17m (7-1 ½) mark to tie for the No. 7 spot in program history with David Bradham (2019). Robert Allen placed fourth (2.06m; 6-9) while Timothy Watson tied for ninth (2.01m; 6-7).
