Women’s Tennis Welcomes Colby Meeks to Coaching Staff

Meeks will be an assistant coach with the Nittany Lions

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women’s tennis head coach Alexandra McIntyre has hired Colby Meeks as assistant coach to join the Nittany Lions for the 2025-26 season.

“I’m incredibly excited to welcome Colby Meeks to our Penn State Women’s Tennis family as our new assistant coach. Colby brings a wealth of experience from top programs including Liberty, Rice, and New Mexico, where he’s coached nationally ranked teams, NCAA qualifiers, and standout recruits,” said McIntyre. “His ability to connect with players, recruit top talent, and support both performance and culture makes him an outstanding addition to our program. I can’t wait to get to work with him as we continue to raise the standard in Happy Valley.”

Meeks comes to Happy Valley after one year at Liberty. Meeks helped guide the Flames to a 12-13 (5-2 Conference USA) record and a semifinals appearance at the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship. Liberty saw six student-athletes earn postseason CUSA honors, including the conference’s Freshman of the Year.

“I’m honored to join the Penn State Women’s Tennis program and contribute to a university that sets the standard for academic and athletic excellence. I want to thank Alex and the athletic department for their trust and for the opportunity to be part of the Nittany Lion family,” said Meeks. “It is clear that this program is built on strong values, a competitive spirit, and a commitment to student-athlete development. I have tremendous respect for the culture Alex has created, and I look forward to building on that foundation. My goal is to help our student-athletes grow both on and off the court, and to push this program to new levels of success.”

Prior to his coaching stint with Liberty, Meeks was the assistant coach at Rice from 2018-24. Under Meeks’ tutelage, the Owls were consistently ranked inside the Top 55 of the ITA rankings. Rice reached No. 27 in 2021 with a 15-7 record. The team won the Conference USA tournament championship in 2019 and were finalists in 2023. Meeks coached multiple NCAA Individual Championships qualifiers in both singles and doubles.

From 2016-18, Meeks served in the same role at New Mexico. The Lobos earned a top eight mid-major recruiting class with Meeks coaching three all-conference honorees.

Meeks entered the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant with Division II Cameron University from 2014-16. At Cameron, he earned Women's ITA South Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year while also helping the men’s program to Elite Eight and Sweet 16 appearances at the NCAA tournament.

Meeks began his collegiate playing career at Tyler Junior College from 2009-11, winning the NJCAA National Championship. He finished his career with Midwestern State University (Division II), becoming an NCAA quarterfinalist and a Lone Star Conference champion. He earned a No. 9 doubles ranking and the Lone Star Conference Newcomer of the Year award.
