UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women’s tennis team (5-0, 0-0 Big Ten) swept through its doubleheader on Sunday, taking down Mercyhurst (0-2, 0-0 NEC), 7-0, and Mount St. Mary’s (0-5, 0-0 MAAC), 4-0. The Blue & White did not concede a single set across both matches in a dominant display with seven Nittany Lions winning multiple matches across singles and doubles.
With the victories, Penn State moved to 5-0 for the first time since the 2013 campaign when PSU started the season 9-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED - MERCYHURST
Penn State dominated doubles play with three emphatic victories, dropping just one game across the matches. Katerina Dimitrova and Kate Zink were the first to finish as they cruised to a 6-0 triumph over Celeste Davis and Mollie Gray. It was the first doubles win of the season for the junior pairing.
The Blue & White secured simultaneous victories on courts one and two to secure the point. At the two spot, Ansley Cox and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru earned a 6-1 win against Kiersten Brown and Ellyana Jacobs while Jordina Cegarra and Patricia Grigoras defeated Simone Mercier and Daria Rogova, 6-0, on court one.
Cegarra captured the first singles win of the day when she beat Jacobs, 6-0, 6-1, on court four. Grigoras, playing at the top spot, was the next to find victory as she defeated Rogova, 6-1, 6-2. Ciubotaru clinched the match for Penn State with an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 win over Mercier on court two. It was the highest court the sophomore out of Focsani, Romania has earned a victory from.
Cox put together a solid performance on court three as she won 6-4, 6-3 against Kiersten Brown. The freshman secured her victory by taking three straight games in the second set.
Dimitrova and Zink both earned milestone victories to close out the Nittany Lions’ 7-0 win. On court five, Dimitrova bested Davis, 6-0, 6-2, for her first-career dual match singles victory. Zink got her first-ever dual match singles win as well, taking down Gray on court six in a 6-2, 6-0 decision.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MOUNT ST. MARY’S
The Blue & White picked up three more doubles wins against the Mountaineers. Cox and Maelie Monfils, competing on court three, made quick work of Margherita Trolese and Eirini Tsakiri for a 6-1 win.
At the top spot, Cegarra and Grigoras picked up a 6-4 victory over Venus Tang and Isabella Pescatore before Brianna Baldi and Ciubotaru secured a 7-5 triumph on court two against Anna Barlini and Emma Perkins.
Grigoras got a win via walkover on court two before singles play began. Baldi, working from the three spot, quickly defeated Anya Rosenbach, 6-1, 6-1 to make it 3-0. Cegarra clinched the match with a commanding, 6-0, 6-1, victory against Emma Kaden on court five.
Monfils held a 6-4, 4-1 advantage against Tang on court one while Cox held a 6-4, 1-0 lead over Kaajal Ramisetty before both matches went unfinished. The court six matchup between Dimitrova and Pescatore did not start as Penn State clinched the match before it could begin.

Penn State is set to host its third and final doubleheader of the spring when it opens Big Ten play against No. 10 Ohio State at 11 a.m. and closes the day with St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 15. The Nittany Lions and Buckeyes will be the first official conference dual of the 2026 Big Ten women’s tennis season.
