LOS ANGELES - Penn State women’s tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to USC on the road at the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium on Saturday.
The Nittany Lions fell to 10-3 overall and 1-3 in the Big Ten, while the Trojans improved to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten.
HOW IT HAPPENED
USC took the doubles point. On court three, Brianna Baldi and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru fell to Immi Haddad and Emma Charney, 6-1. On court one, No. 75 ranked pair Olivia Dorner and Maelie Monfils lost to Lily Fairclough and Krisha Mahendran, 6-3.
On court two, Patricia Grigoras and Maiko Uchijima were leading 5-4 when their match against Dani Borruel and Eugenia Zozaya went unfinished.
The Trojans won three straight singles points to close the match. On court two, Uchijima fell to No. 98 Eugenia Zozaya, 6-0, 6-1. Monfils dropped a 6-2, 6-4 result on court one to No. 38 Jana Hossam. For USC’s final point, Grigoras fell to No. 39 Emma Charney, 6-4, 6-2.
Ciubotaru won the first set, 6-4, against Simone Kay on court six, with the match being stopped at 6-4, 1-6. On court four, Baldi lost her first set against Krisha Mahendran, 0-6, and was tied 5-5 in the second set before the match went unfinished. Dorner was down 2-6, 3-4 on court five as the dual came to an end.
