ATLANTA - Penn State women’s tennis dropped a 4-1 road contest against Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions fell to 10-5 (1-4 Big Ten) while the Yellow Jackets improved to 8-8 (3-3 ACC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgia Tech took courts two and three to win the doubles point. On court two, Patricia Grigoras and Maiko Uchijima dropped a 6-4 result to Taly Licht and Sabritt Dozier. At the three spot, Brianna Baldi and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru fell to Given Roach and Eleni Karantali, 6-2.
Olivia Dorner and Maelie Monfils held a 5-2 lead against No. 77 Alejandra Cruz and Seri Nayuki on court one before the match went unfinished.
Dorner opened the scoring for Penn State in singles play with a victory on court five. The senior defeated Dozier, 6-1, 6-3, to even the match at 1-1.
The Yellow Jackets took the top three courts in quick succession to clinch the dual. Uchijima fell to Roach, 6-3, 6-2, on court three. Grigoras dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision against Licht, at the two spot. Monfils came up short against No. 66 Cruz, 6-4, 6-4, on the top court.
Ciubotaru held a 6-1, 4-4 edge against Olivia Carneiro on court six before the match went unfinished. Baldi, playing on court four, also had her match go unfinished.
