CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Penn State women’s tennis fell to Charlotte, 4-1, on Monday afternoon. The Nittany Lions dropped to 10-6 (1-4 Big Ten) with the 49ers improving to 15-3 (3-0 American).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn State took its 11th doubles point of the season to start the day. Patricia Grigoras and Maiko Uchijima cruised to a dominant victory against Andrea Chacon and Shona Nakano on court two. The pair was the first to finish with a 6-0 result.
Jordina Cegarra and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru clinched the point with a 6-3 triumph over Prisca Abbas and Lucia Aranda on court three. The court one match between Olivia Dorner and Maelie Monfils and No. 21 Sara Suchankova and Ni Xi went unfinished with Suchankova and Xi leading 5-3.
Charlotte would take the match behind four straight singles wins. On court three, Uchijima fell, 6-1, 6-1, to Nakano. Baldi dropped a 6-1, 6-3 result to Aranda on court five. Dorner came up short against Abbas, 6-4, 6-1, at the four spot. The match concluded on court two as Grigoras fell to Suchankova, 6-1, 6-4.
Ciubotaru won the first set on court six against Yelyzave Chainykova, 7-5, and was tied at 1-1 before the match went unfinished. Monfils trailed Xi, 7-5, 3-1, on court one as the match did not finish.
