Oneacre Tabbed as No. 1 Third Baseman by Softball America

First-year sensation picks up top ranking at third base, one of just two B1G athletes ranked by SA

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State softball freshman third baseman Allison Oneacre picked up the nation’s No. 1 ranking in her position group entering the month of March following a release from Softball America on Tuesday afternoon.

The Alpharetta, Georgia, native, Oneacre has emerged as one of the most powerful names in college softball through the first month of the campaign, highlighted by bashing the fourth-most home runs in the Big Ten Conference and 13th-most nationally with nine. Oneacre has also been a menace in terms of run production overall, logging the third most RBI and RBI per game in the Big Ten with 33 and 1.65, respectively, ranking seventh in Division I in per-game numbers. The rookie currently stands as Penn State’s statistical leader in nearly every offensive category, simultaneously establishing herself as a premier defender with 19 putouts, 38 assists and an eye-popping .983 fielding percentage on an individual basis.

Oneacre was a dominant force in the field and at the plate during the Nittany Lions' trip to the Tennessee Invitational last week, hitting to the tune of a .438 batting average to lead all PSU hitters. She led the Blue & White with seven hits and six RBI, cranked a pair of home runs and earned a .444 on-base percentage while facing off against the strongest pitching staff in America across two games versus No. 1 Tennessee. Oneacre started and played all five games over the weekend tournament, highlighted by a demolished solo home run against the Lady Volunteers on Friday that saw the Nittany Lions take a lead against the top-ranked squad in the country. In the field, Oneacre was perfect yet again, logging 10 assists and three putouts with an unblemished 1.000 fielding percentage.

The Penn Stater was one of 15 student-athletes ranked at the third base spot by Softball America, picking up one of just two rankings collected by Big Ten Conference players. The only other B1G player to garner a ranking at third base was UCLA’s Bri Alejandre. Oneacre was tabbed number one ahead of multiple All-Americans from last year, notably ranking higher than Texas Tech’s Taylor Pannell and Florida State’s Jaysoni Beachum. Oneacre’s recognition comes as the second individual player ranking accrued by a Nittany Lion this week, with her appearance at the top of the third base rankings joining a No. 24 nod for junior right-handed pitcher Bridget Nemeth a day ago.

With Oneacre headlining the offense, Penn State continues its season-opening travels this Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7, as the Nittany Lions face off against a competitive field of challengers at the Hokie Invite from the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia. The Blue & White will battle the Radford Highlanders and Boston College Eagles on Friday before facing off in a twin bill against the James Madison Dukes and No. 11 Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday.
