NITTANY LIONS LAST WEEK

Penn State brought home several records and outstanding performances last week at the Florida Relays, held in Gainesville, Florida.

Ajani Dwyer posted a school-record 10.06 in the men’s 100-meter dash, earning him Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second consecutive week. Dwyer’s time won him the event and broke the two-year-old record set by Cheickna Traore.

His fellow sprinter Jake Palermo delivered in the men’s 400-meter dash, running a 45.29. Palermo improved his own third-best mark in program history while finishing second in the field.

Senior sprinter Marie-Eloise LeClair recorded the fourth-fastest time in the women’s 200-meter dash at 23.14. She also tied the fourth-fastest time in the 100-meter dash at 11.56, claiming both records in her second meet as a Nittany Lion.

The final runner to claim a program Top 10 in Gainesville was Tayissa Buchanan, who clocked a 2:04.36 in the women’s 800-meter run. The Australia native earned the sixth-fastest time in program history by 0.01 seconds, placing 14th in the 56-athlete field.

Several Nittany Lions shined in the throw events as well, including Collin Burkhart, who  moved into third in the men’s hammer with a 221-6.00 (67.53m). In the women’s shot put, Sasha Garnett placed fifth at 52-10.00 (16.10m).
