Penn State Finishes Day 2 at Bison Outdoor Classic

Sommers, Pancoast, North win events for the Nittany Lions

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track & field concluded a solid showing in Lewisburg at the Bison Outdoor Classic Sunday.

It wrapped up a successful weekend that saw eight Nittany Lions win their respective events: six women and two men.

EVENT SUMMARY

The women’s hammer throw started the day strong for Penn State. Alex Pancoast prevailed with a personal best 182-1.00 (55.50m), Gabi Deglau took third at 174-6.00 (53.19m) and Gabby Cope threw a 171-11.00 (52.41m), finishing sixth.

The women’s 400-meter hurdles saw two Nittany Lions place in the meet’s top five. Abasiono Akpan took second place at 1:00.06, while Addyson White finished fourth at 1:00.72. White also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, running a seventh-place 14.49.

Moving to the track events, where the women’s 400-meter dash gave another victory for the Nittany Lions. Alexandria North earned the win, running a 53.75, while Ryleigh Hearn finished fifth at 55.53. North also competed in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth at 24.35, while Mimi Duffy ran a 24.82.

Freshman Peyton Sommers delivered in the men’s 200-meter dash, topping the field with a 20.84 (3.9w).

In the throw events, Audrey Friedman recorded a 148-2.00 (45.17m) in the women’s javelin, good for fifth place.

UP NEXT

Penn State heads to Charlottesville, Virginia to compete in the Virginia Challenge. The two-day meet begins Friday, April 17 and ends Saturday, April 18.
