Penn State Concludes 2026 Campaign at the Tempe Regional

TEMPE, Ariz. – Despite one of the best showings on beam and floor this season, Penn State concluded its season at the Tempe Regional with a final team score of 196.200 and placed third behind third-seed Florida and 14-seed California. The 196.000 total team score is the fifth-best performance for the Nittany Lions in NCAA Regional competition.

Elizabeth Leary shattered her career-best on beam with a 9.900 while Dani Latronica stayed dominant on the apparatus with her seventh 9.900 or higher this season. Leary and Latronica’s routines are tied for the second-highest NCAA Regional beam score in team history.

FLOOR (49.150)

Penn State continued its streak of excellence on the floor with the team’s 11th-straight floor rotation that scored above 49.000. The 49.150 tied last year’s score at the University Park Regional for the 10th-best score in team history at NCAA Regionals. Alyssa Kramer led the floor squad with a 9.875 anchor performance. A trio of Nittany Lions, Leary, Kalea McElligott and Jessica Johanson, all secured a 9.825 on the apparatus. Bella Misiura tallied a 9.800 and Ellie Monahan rounded out the exercise with a 9.750.

VAULT (49.025)

This was the eighth time this year that Penn State has scored above a 49.000 on the vault. Senior Second Team All-Big Ten member Ava Piedrahita notched a team-leading 9.850 with Johanson following close behind with a 9.825 while Leary registered a 9.800. In the middle of the routine, Latronica, Allison Kaempfer and freshman Ava Cash, in her first NCAA Regional competition, secured a trio of 9.775s.

BARS (48.800)

Cash, the Second All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman Team honoree, led Penn State with a 9.825 on the uneven bars while Leary matched her output with a 9.825 of her own. Latronica was close behind the pair with a 9.775 and Piedrahita followed her with a 9.750. Johanson and Monahan rounded out the rotation with a 9.625 and 9.525, respectively.  This was only the second time all year when the Nittany Lions scored below a 49.000 on the apparatus.

BEAM (49.225)

The pair of Leary and Latronica lead the way for the Nittany Lions. The sophomore duo both tallied 9.900s, the highest score by any Penn State gymnast on the night and tied for the second-highest NCAA Regional balance beam mark by a Nittany Lion with the last gymnast to do so being Amani Herring, who did it twice during the 2024 season. Monahan’s 9.850 was just shy of tying her career-high 9.875 that she set in the Big Four Meet while McElligott followed closely behind with a 9.800. Ashley Maul and Kramer finished out the night for Penn State with a pair of 9.775s. This was the third-highest tally on the beam that the Blue and White had throughout the 2026 campaign and the third-best score in team history at NCAA Regionals.
