UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – First-year Sofia Ismael recorded a hat trick to lead the Penn State women’s hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Robert Morris in the two-game series finale on Saturday afternoon, completing the weekend sweep.
Ismael opened the scoring just 2:10 into the game off an assist from sophomore Sophie Morrow. First-year Kylie Amelkovich netted her first collegiate goal at the 8:21 mark, with junior alternate captain Abby Stonehouse and Ismael earning the assists. Ismael added her second goal at 13:46 of the opening period, assisted by Stonehouse and Morrow. She completed her hat trick at 11:18 of the third period to round out Penn State’s scoring, with assists from Stonehouse and sophomore Danica Maynard.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ismael opened the scoring in the first period just two minutes firing a shot from just above the crease in to give the Nittany Lions an early 1-0 advantage.
- Amelkovich doubled Penn State’s lead at 8:20 with the first goal of her collegiate career. Stonehouse found Ismael in front of the net, who fed Amelkovich near the left side of the crease for the finish.
- Penn State went on its first power play of the afternoon following a Robert Morris tripping penalty at 12:30. Ismael capitalized on the advantage, ripping a shot from the right circle for her second goal of the game to extend the Nittany Lions lead to 3-0.
- The Nittany Lions killed off a Robert Morris power play late in the period and carried a 3-0 advantage into the first intermission.
- Penn State held Robert Morris without a shot on goal in the opening period while putting 15 shots on net.
- Robert Morris got on the board at 4:38 of the second period during a five-on-three advantage. Jessica MacKinnon scored from the right side of the net off assists from Alaina Giampietro and Thalia D'Elia to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- The Nittany Lions successfully killed off two additional Robert Morris power plays during the middle frame to maintain their two-goal advantage.
- Penn State held a 29-4 advantage in shots on goal through two periods.
- Ismael completed the hat trick at 11:18 of the third period. The first-year forward broke free through the neutral zone on a breakaway before beating the Robert Morris goaltender, Maggie Hatch, to extend Penn State’s led to 4-1.
- Robert Morris was assessed a roughing penalty at 15:31, but the Colonials successfully killed off the ensuing Penn State power play.
- Penn State finished the afternoon with a 52-4 advantage in shots on goal to secure the 4-1 victory and weekend sweep.

- The win marks Penn State’s 10th consecutive victory over Robert Morris.
- The last time the Nittany Lions held a team with 10 shots or less prior to tonight was seven against Delaware in a 5-0 victory on January 23, 2026.
- Ismael had a four point performance with her three goals and one assist.
- Stonehouse tallied three assists on the evening.
- Morrow had two assists on the evening.
