Stonehouse's Hat Trick Powers No. 7 Penn State Past RIT, 6-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Junior alternate captain Abby Stonehouse recorded her first career hat trick, scoring twice in the third period, while sophomore goaltender Maddy Campbell stopped all 15 shots she faced to lead Penn State women’s hockey to a 6-0 victory over RIT at Gene Polisseni Center on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Mikah Keller put the Nittany Lions on the board just under three minutes into the first period, with junior McKenna Walsh and sophomore Danica Maynard earning assists. Six minutes later, Stonehouse doubled the lead with a power-play goal off assists from first-year Sofia Ismael and sophomore Sophie Morrow. Maynard extended Penn State’s lead to 3-0 with the lone goal of the second period, assisted by first-year Megan Hosman. The Nittany Lions struck twice in the opening 1:21 of the third period, beginning with junior captain Grace Outwater’s goal just 38 seconds into the frame off assists from Morrow and Hosman. Stonehouse added her second goal of the evening 43 seconds later before completing her hat trick with a shorthanded tally late in the period to cap Penn State’s scoring. Morrow and Keller assisted on both goals.

  • Campbell stopped all four shots she faced in the opening frame.

  • Stonehouse is the first AHA player to accomplish the feat since Mercyhurst’s Julia Schalin did against Lindenwood on Dec. 5, 2025, and the first Penn State player since Outwater did against Delaware on Oct. 10, 2025.
  • Like Schalin, Stonehouse completed her hat trick with a shorthanded goal.
  • Morrow’s four assists tied for the second-most in a single game in program history, while her four points tied for fourth.

  • The consecutive shutouts by first-year Morgan Stickney and Campbell mark Penn State’s first back-to-back shutouts since Campbell and Katie DeSa ’26 blanked Delaware in 5-0 and 7-0 wins on Jan. 23 and 24 during the 2025-26 season.
  • Penn State’s two power-play goals tied for third-most in a single game in program history.
  • Ismael increased her season totals to six goals and 10 assists for 16 points, ranking second nationally among first-year players in all three categories.
