Senior Alexander Vongries heads into his fourth season with the Penn State fencers hoping to earn a trip to nationals for the first time. An experienced fencer, Vongreis is coming off his best year as a Nittany Lion and could emerge as a leader for the men[apos]s saber team.
Lion Career:
2006-07: Vongries went 25-8 in 2006-07 but did not compete at regionals. He posted dual match records of 4-5, 3-2, 12-1 and 6-0.
2005-06: Vongries went 6-2 in duals as a sophomore. He was 4-0 on Dec. 3 and 2-2 on Jan. 28. He was second at the Junior Olympics as well.
2004-05: Vongries went 14-3 in duals, including going 6-0 vs. Wayne State and Cal State-Fullerton on Jan. 29.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Vongries is a native of Bloomington, Minn. An outstanding student, Vongries has his eyes set on an engineering major.
