Megan Gibson is in her second season as an assistant coach for the Nittany Lions in 2015. She serves primarily as the pitching coach.
Under her leadership in 2014, Lion hurlers amassed 14 wins to go along with 177 strikeouts, 22 complete games and a pair of shutouts. The Penn State pitching staff also accumulated four saves on the season which was tied for fourth most in the Big Ten.
BEFORE PENN STATE
An All-American at Texas A&M, Gibson joined the Penn State coaching staff after spending two seasons as an assistant under head coach Amanda Lehotak at University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA). Under Gibson[apos]s guidance in 2013, UTSA garnered a formidable 2.76 earned run average while holding opponents to a .254 batting average.
Prior to UTSA, Gibson spent four seasons in the National Professional Fastpitch League (NPF). After leading Texas A&M to a runner-up finish at the 2008 Women[apos]s College World Series (WCWS), she was selected by the Philadelphia Force with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2008 NPF Senior Draft. In addition to her time in the league, Gibson spent a season in the Japanese Softball Association.
Along with her career in the NPF, Gibson served under Texas A&M head coach Jo Evans as a graduate assistant in fall 2008 and again as a volunteer pitching coach during the 2011 season. She also spent time as a softball instructor at High Performance Baseball in Tomball and as a volunteer assistant coach at Spring High School in 2010.
Gibson[apos]s collegiate career was one of the most decorated in Texas A&M history. Her stellar play in both the pitcher[apos]s circle and batter[apos]s box earned her National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America honors as a freshman, junior and senior, and she finished as a runner-up the for association[apos]s Player of the Year award in 2008. Gibson is the only player in Big 12 Conference history to be named both Player and Pitcher of the Year as a senior and she went on to lead the Aggies to the conference tournament title as the event[apos]s Most Valuable Player. She also led Texas A&M to a league crown in 2005 and a WCWS appearance in 2007. In all, Gibson owns six career school records, including doubles (48), home runs (56), RBIs (183), total bases (447), slugging percentage (.717) and walks (172). She also ranks in the program[apos]s top 10 in seven other categories. In October of 2014, Gibson was inducted into Texas A&M[apos]s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Gibson, a native of Spring, Texas, graduated from Texas A&M in 2008 with a bachelor[apos]s degree in sports management and a minor in business.
