LION CAREER:
AS A SENIOR IN 2016-17: Ortega-Furgeson had an eventful final season as a Nittany Lion with five 3-0 performances. She ended the season with a 49-30 record.Ortega-Furgeson competed in the Mid-Atlantic/Southern Regionals where she finished eighth. Qualifying her for the NCAA Championships and finished the competition in 14th place.
AS A JUNIOR IN 2015-16: Ortega-Furgeson saw plenty of action her third year as a Nittany Lion. She had eleven 3-0 shutout performances against Vassar, Yale, Temple, Cal. Tech, USD, Stanford, Duke, NIttanyUNC, UPenn, and Brown. Ortega-Furgeson finished the season with a 52-31 record and placed 16th at the Mid-Atlantic/Southern Regionals.
AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2014-15: Ortega-Furgeson saw a fair amount of collegiate fencing action 2014-15. In her second season as a Nittany Lion, Ortega-Furgeson tallied two 3-0 shutout performances against NYU and UPenn. Ortega-Furgeson finished the regular season with a record 12-16.
AS A FRESHMAN IN 2013-14: In Ortega-Furgeson’s first-year Nittany Lion she saw plenty of action. She went 21-11 in the regular season. Ortega-Furgeson had seven undefeated duals this season against NYU, Sacred Heart, Vassar, Haverford, WSU, Detroit, and Cleveland University.
HIGH SCHOOL/ PERSONAL: Desree Ortega-Furgeson previously fenced for West Michigan Fencing Academy under head coach Mike Nemececk. Ortega-Furgeson is currently a biobehavioral health and nutrition major at Penn State Ortega -Furgeson chose Penn State because of the great education and fencing opportunities.
