Senior Maria Joao Reis heads into her fourth season with the women's epee team looking to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships. The talented native of Brazil will be working toward earning her 100th victory this season as well.
LION CAREER:
2008-09: Reis posted a 7-2 record in 2009-10, seeing action in Penn State's duals on Dec. 6 and Jan. 25.
2007-08: As a sophomore, Reis posted a 38-14 record in epee competition. Her 15th place finish at Regionals was not enough though to advance her to nationals. Reis had dual match records of 13-2, 13-4, 10-7 and 2-1. In addition, the Brazil native took a 13th place finish at the 2007 Penn State Garret Open.
2006-07: Reis posted a superb 44-8 dual match mark in 2006-07, but placed ninth at Regionals and did not earn a trip to nationals. Reis recorded dual match records of 1-1, 18-3, 14-1 and 11-3
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Reis fenced for Esporte Club Pinheiros in Sao Paulo, where she won the 2005 and 2006 epee title at Brazil's junior nationals. Reis also took second in the saber in 2005. She was a two-year letterman in softball at Escola Maria Imaculada Chapel School.
