All-American 2008
LION CAREER:
2009-10: In her fourth season with the Nittany Lions Byerts went 43-12. She served as an alternate for the team at the Mid-Atlantic South Regionals.
2008-09: Byerts posted a 29-9 record in the epee in 2009, but a fifth place finish at Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals kept her from competing in the NCAA Championships to defend her All-America honors won the year before.
2007-08: The All-American Byerts finished with a 34-12 overall record in dual match competition. She finished second at Regionals, qualifying her for her first ever NCAA Championships appearance. Byerts posted dual match records of 12-3, 11-2 and 11-7. In addition, Byerts placed ninth at the 2007 Penn State Garret Open.
2006-07: Byerts posted a 16-4 record in dual matches last year, seeing spot time as a starter in the epee. Byerts finished seventh at Regionals to miss out on a shot at competing at nationals. She recorded dual match records of 11-1 in December4 and 5-3 in February.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: Byerts was a member of the 2005 U.S. World Team and was a finalist at the World Championships that year. In 2006, she moved back to Webster, N.Y., and finished second at U.S. Summer Nationals. She fenced for the Rochester Fencing Center and was a five-time U.S. World Team qualifier (2001 through 2006).
