Box Score

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - With two goals from senior forward Aubrey Aden-Buie (Allentown, Pa.) and the gamewinner from sophomore Katie Schoepfer (Waterford, Conn.), No. 17 Penn State downed regional foe Bucknell, 5-1, Wednesday night in Lewisburg. The five-goal output was the most for the Nittany Lions this year. Penn State is now 4-2-1, while Bucknell falls to 3-4-0.

After a scoreless first half, Penn State made up for it in the second period by netting all five of its goals vs. the Bison. Redshirt-sophomore Ashley Myers (Bel Air, Md.) tucked her first goal of the year inside the right post off an assist from sophomore transfer Melissa Hayes (Cave Creek, Ariz.) in the 48th minute. The assist was one of three on the day for Hayes and marked her first points as a Nittany Lions.

A little over five minutes later, Myers passed on the favor by assisting Schoepfer's third goal of the year, which was also her third in six days. The goal would eventually become the gamewinner after Bucknell broke the shutout in the 60th minute on a Chelsea McGorry goal, which was assisted by Christa Matlack.

The Nittany Lions scored off a corner kick when tri-captain Jessie Davis (Fairfax, Va.) deposited Hayes' second helper of the day to extend the team's lead back to two goals at 3-1 with less then eight minutes to play.

Penn State's offense didn't quit until the final horn, however, as Aden-Buie got into the scoring column off Hayes' final assist of the day when a breakaway in the 84th minute lead to a 4-1 PSU advantage. The Nittany Lions piled one more on in the last second of the game, when Aden-Buie beat Bucknell's keeper, Kathryn Sutton from the left side for the 5-1 final.

The last time the Nittany Lions scored five or more goals was on Nov. 13, 2005 vs. No. 21 West Virginia in the NCAA Tournament. The last time Penn State won by four or more goals was against Bucknell on Nov. 11, 2005, also in the NCAA Tournament, when the Nittany Lions beat Bucknell, 6-0.

Penn State heads to No. 21 Notre Dame for a Sunday showdown at 12:30 p.m. live on ESPNU. The national televised contest will be the third of at least six this year for the Nittany Lions. PSU returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. as part of a men's/women's doubleheader. The women's team will meet Colgate first followed by a men's game at 7 p.m. vs. Penn.
